At an emergency meeting of the State Music & Department Council held today, Commonwealth University President Dr. Jeffrey L. Osgood Jr. confirmed that the university-wide retrenchment target is 75.4 FTE — and that this figure includes temporary faculty, which had not been previously clarified.

For the Department of Music, Theatre & Dance, this means a minimum of 2.86 FTE in temporary faculty will count toward the reduction, with the remaining 3.14 FTE coming from regular full-time faculty by seniority. Since partial positions cannot be eliminated, the practical effect is the loss of all temporary faculty and four tenure-line positions.

The department was told that the cuts are necessary due to financial pressures facing Commonwealth University, but no detailed financial justification has been shared publicly.
